What is a Makerspace?

A makerspace  – also known as a hackerspace, or fab lab – is a community-operated workspace where people with common interests, often in computers, machining, technology, science, art, digital art or electronic art, can meet, socialize and collaborate .

BiG Fab Lab, LLC is an open-access workshop that serves people in the Northwest Ohio region. We provide the equipment, classes and personal assistance to a membership community that allows them to prototype and develop any idea they can imagine. We serve people, schools, and businesses who have an interest in hands-on skills in a variety of crafting, design, and manufacturing areas.

We focus on developing and fostering a creative community of hands-on individuals, and providing the tools they need to succeed. Our Fab Lab has equipment for Rapid Prototyping – 3D scanning and 3D printing, laser engraving, welding, metalworking, woodworking, plastic-working, electronics, programming, pottery, photography and many other skill sets.

We offer regular classes, taught by instructors with exceptional expertise in these areas, that train people to safely work with the tools and equipment and how it can be used to realize their ideas.

We emphasize community. It’s our belief and experience that a strong, active community fosters excitement, passion and innovation. These are what drive our members to succeed and gain satisfaction with the continual completion of projects that would have otherwise been much more difficult to achieve.
