Tool Docs & Technical Specs Use & Notes
Bandsaw (Grizzly)
A bandsaw, ideal for woodworking, uses a flexible, rotating blade for even cuts. Splits thick wood into thinner pieces with uniform cuts. Excels in creating smooth, intricate shapes, dictated by blade width. Suitable for smaller wood pieces, less common than table saw use. Notes: Model: G0555LX
Router Table (Craftsman)
Mounting a router in a table transforms this handy tool into a small shaper. This arrangement leaves your hands free to manipulate the work, and enables you to use stops, fences, and hold-downs to control the cut. This orientation also offers a fresh vantage, allowing you to see what the bit is doing to the work. Notes: Model: 171.2506
Drum Sander (Delta)
Consider the drum sander as a finish sanding tool. While similar to a thickness planer, a drum sander is used for making veneers or for thinning thin materials. Notes: Model: 31-250
Planer 13″ (Dewalt)
The DEWALT DW735 13-Inch, Three Knife, Two Speed Thickness Planer has a powerful 15 AMP, 20,000 RPM motor (10,000 RPM cutterhead speed) that handles larger cuts in wider materials with ease. Notes: Model: DW735
Scroll Saw 20″ (Craftsman)
A scroll saw is a small electric saw used to cut intricate curves in wood, metal, or other materials. The fineness of its blade allows it to cut more delicately than a power jigsaw, and more easily than a hand coping saw or fretsaw. Like those tools, it is capable of creating curves with edges, by pivoting its table. Notes: Model: 113.236400
CNC Router 30×30 (Custom)
A CNC router can perform the tasks of many carpentry shop machines such as the panel saw, the spindle moulder, and the boring machine. They can also cut joinery such as mortises and tenons. Similar in concept of a milling machine. Notes: Mach3 controller
Chop Saw (Makita)
A saw used to make accurate crosscuts and miters in a workpiece by positioning a mounted blade onto a board. Notes: Model: LS1011, 10' runout table
CNC Router 6’x10′ (Custom)
A CNC router can perform the tasks of many carpentry shop machines such as the panel saw, the spindle moulder, and the boring machine. They can also cut joinery such as mortises and tenons. Similar in concept of a milling machine. Notes: Mach3 controller
Table Saw (Ridgid)
A table saw consists of a circular saw blade, mounted on an arbor, that is driven by an electric motor (either directly, by belt, or by gears). The blade protrudes through the top of a table, which provides support for the material, usually wood, being cut. Notes: Model: TS3650, with 36" fence
Table Saw (Jet)
A table saw consists of a circular saw blade, mounted on an arbor, that is driven by an electric motor (either directly, by belt, or by gears). The blade protrudes through the top of a table, which provides support for the material, usually wood, being cut. Notes: Model: JTAS-10-1, with 4' fence
Panel Saw 4’x8′ (Dewalt/Black & Decker)
A vertical panel saw is mounted on a wall for cutting large board material. You find them in lumber yards. Notes: Model: 483
Belt & Disc Sander (Grizzly)
Combination belt/disc sanders and grinders are used for sanding, grinding, deburring, and contouring. Disc and belt sanders are used on wood and generally operate at higher speeds than grinders, which are used with metal workpieces. Notes: Model: SD-69
Mini Drill Press (Shop Force)
Benchtop drill presses create holes in thinner wood workpieces and mount to a work surface to save floor space. They are more compact with a shorter spindle travel than floor-stand drill presses. Their manual downfeed requires hand-cranking to lower the drill bit into workpieces, and their motor uses belt-driven pulleys to transmit torque to the drilling spindle. Notes: Model: 01261, 5-speed
Lathe 12″x36″ (Central Machinery)
Lathes cut, shape, size, or finish cylindrical workpieces. They can also create features such as grooves or knurls on workpiece surfaces. The lathe holds and rotates the workpiece against a cutting tool to remove material from the workpiece. Notes: Model: T34706, speed range 600-2400 RPM
Large Drill Press (Boice Crane)
Floor stand drill presses provide a long spindle travel to drill through thicker workpieces and create larger-diameter holes than benchtop drill presses. They support work on the table below the drill head, and they maintain consistent alignment to create more accurate holes than handheld drills. Depending on the type of bits used, these shop drills may ream, countersink, counterbore, tap, or perform other holemaking operations. Notes: 1/3 HP
Bench Grinder (Ryobi)
Notes: Model: BGH615, 1/2" Arbor, Lathe sharpening fixture attached
Jointer 6″ (Delta)
Used to produce a flat surface along a board's length. As a jointer, the machine operates on the narrow edge of boards, preparing them for use as butt joint or gluing into panels. A planer-jointer setup has the width that enables smoothing ('surface planing') and leveling the faces (widths) of boards small enough to fit the tables. Notes: Model: 52-866X

Bridgeport Mill (Bridgeport)
Milling machines use the rotational motion of a stationary cutter to remove material from a workpiece. The position of the workpiece can be moved along all 3 of the machines working axes (X, Y, and Z). By advancing the workpiece into the rotating cutter, material is removed, and it is brought to the desired size and shape.
